My MET Gala hits and misses

So last night New York held the MET Gala.  It’s one of the biggest fashion events of the year; celebrities, couture, and art collided for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual costume gala.  All the usual A-listers were invited and had the chance to show off themselves and their (in some cases) FABULOUS outfits with the overall theme “Punk: From Chaos to Couture” on the red carpet.

THESE ARE MY OPINIONS OF . . . MY BEST DRESSED, MY WORST DRESSED AND MY HMM I’M NOT TOO SURE . . .

three best

My Best Dressed . . .

Animal magnetism: J-Lo donned a form-fitting leopard print gown for her red carpet display

I think Jennifer Lopez had to get the award for my favourite outfit of the night! As always she looked beautiful and I just loved the dress.

I loved Nicole Richie’s new hair do and outfit, she was utterly stunning!

Miss Giuliana Rancic, beautiful and elegant as ever.

Anne Hathaway Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrating the Punk: Chaos To Couture exhibition, Metropolitan Museum of Art

I loved Anne Hathaway’s dress and the new hair colour!

Similar thinking: Blonde beauties Diane Kruger and Taylor accented black looks with smokey eyes and pink-tinged tresses

The punk edge to Taylor Swift I think really suits her, I thought she looked stunning!

Blue beauty: Ivanka Trump wore blue streaks in her blonde hair, but her outfit was disappointingly office-like

Plain, simple and not very punk but I really liked Ivana Trump’s outfit.

Model of the moment: The 20-year-old dazzling in the Burberry dress, which she teamed with a series of fierce accessories

I personally have never really understood the big hype around Cara Delevingne, but I have to say last night she looked amazing and I loved her dress, perhaps because of my love, ok obsession with spikes and studs.

Crown jewels: Actress Jaime King donned a Topshop tuxedo, Jimmy Choo heels and jewelry by Jennifer Fisher and Bulgari; Sienna Miller (right) wore a Burberry biker jacket covered in metallic studs

Sienna Millar also looked stunning in spikes/studs.

Lady in red: Kate Beckinsale wore a silk Mikado red strapless gown with side gathering detail and asymmetric hem by Alberta Ferretti Lady in red: Kate Beckinsale wore a silk Mikado red strapless gown with side gathering detail and asymmetric hem by Alberta Ferretti

As always Kate Beckinsale looked utterly stunning!

Dashing with a twist: Damian Lewis arrived with his wife Helen McCrory on his arm. The actor sported a pair of studded shoes while Helen had a chain earring in

For an older woman I thought Helen McCrory looked gorgeous!

Black is best: Downton star Michelle Dockery wore a snake-print dress with a statement necklace. Felicity Jones wore a black shift dress with liquid gold print

Felicity Jones looked classic with a slightly punk edge to her outfit.

Pretty in purple: Naomie Harris wore a Donna Karen gown

Love, love, love the colour and cut of Naomie Harris’ dress, just stunning!

Spot the fashion couple: Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis wore eye-catching looks to the event

As always Stella McCartney looked elegant and stylish.

Over the top and sticking to simple: Paloma Faith wore a glittering red and black outfit with an interesting headpiece while Pixie Geldof wore a simple black dress

Loved Pixie Geldolf’s little black dress.

Hat's nice! Paloma Faith wore a glittering red and black outfit with an interesting headpiece

As ALWAYS Paloma Faith hit the nail on the head with this fabulous outfit.

Jessica Alba, as always looked utterly stunning!

Happy: Maggie's husband Peter Sarsgaard look delighted by what was she was wearing

Maggie Gyllenhaal, not too bad.

I quite liked Stacy Keibler’s outfit.

My Worst Dressed . . .

Hilary Devey, is that you? Madonna seemed to be emulating the Bolton entrepreneur with her black wig and Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci tartan jacket and a pair of fishnets which left her derriere on show

Seriously Madonna?! There are just NO words!!!

Coordinating: Beyonce even had boots made to match her flaming dress (and she topped off the outfit with matching gloves)

I’m so disappointed to have to say this as I LOVE Beyoncé, but what was she wearing? This outfit is just terrible, what is with the belt and THOSE GLOVES?! Don’t even start me on the matching boots!

Sheer delight? Granted she stuck to the punk theme but Miley Cyrus, who has just topped Maxim's Hot 100 list, resembled a fishnet stocking in her Marc Jacobs gown

Hmm, well I supposed you could say Miley Cyrus got the punk bit of her outfit down to a tee.

Curtain couture: Kim Kardashian, who has preciously been banned from the event, loved her curtain-esque floral Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress so much that she even got matching shoes AND handbag

Now Kim Kardasian had started to get so much better with the maternity outfits, but this seriously? Fair enough it was a last minute change because the outfit she had originally picked didn’t fit, but someone could have told her to lose the gloves, OH THOSE AWFUL GLOVES! As for the shoes, matching with the outfit, really does nothing for me!

Jesus is her homeboy: Katy Perry look her religious theme a step too far by teaming her Dolce & Gabbana dress with a crown

Usually oh so stylish Katy Perry even got it wrong this time round *winces*.

Gladrags: Katie Holmes chose a flowing white Calvin Klein dress which had a split train reminiscent of the awkward moment you get toilet roll stuck to your shoe

This outfit did nothing for Katie Holmes, the rags along the bottom (I feel like this is the only way I can describe it) looks like toilet roll being trailed behind her after getting stuck to her shoe!

Optical illusion: Elle Fanning gave Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat a run for its money with her mind-boggling dress design

Perhaps Elle Fanning decided to customise her dress, not very well mind you.

Not so hot pink: Gwyneth Paltrow failed to impress in her vibrant pink vintage Valentino gown that concealed her slim figure

I suppose everyone needs a miss once in a while, after Gwyneth Paltrow has shown us some gorgeous outfits I don’t know why she ended up choosing this, not one bit punk and the shape did nothing for her.

Spiky does it: Miley Cyrus (left) walked the red carpet in Marc Jacobs, with spiky blonde hair and a bold red lip; while Donatella Versace (right) accessorized with sharp silver spikes

I really don’t expect anything less now from Donatella Versace, this dress would definitely be more suitable on a younger woman.

Power punk couple: Tommy and Dee Hilfiger don mismatching plaid for the Costume Institute Gala Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Yes this is punk and hitting the theme but ugh it looks terrible on Dee Hilfiger.

Pixie crop and plaid: Ginnifer Goodwin wore a leather-trimmed Tory Burch gown (left) and Christina Ricci looked stunning in Vivienne Westwood Couture (right)

No to the dress  Ginnifer Goodwin and what were you thinking with those eyebrows?!

Kerry Washington . . . NO!

Alexa Chung, this outfit is awful.

I didn’t like this outfit at all on Kirsten Stewart.

Alicia Keys, this outfit really did do nothing for her.

Punk princess: Lily Cole wears a vanilla ballgown to the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday

Lily Cole, she might have been cute, but she looked AWFUL!

Hmm, My I’m Just Not Too Sure . . .

Ashley Olsen

Emma Watson (I do love the shoes though)

Miranda Kerr

Cameron Diaz

Solange Knowles

Gwen Steffani

Heidi Klum

I don’t know if I liked Sarah Jessica Parker’s outfit, however I did LOVE her headpiece.

Florence Welch

Ashley Greene

Crown jewels: Actress Jaime King donned a Topshop tuxedo, Jimmy Choo heels and jewelry by Jennifer Fisher and Bulgari; Sienna Miller (right) wore a Burberry biker jacket covered in metallic studs

Jamie King

So that is my round up of the majority of the hits, misses and maybes in my opinion, what do you guys think? Were you impressed by this years fashion at the MET Gala?
