Skinny Living

Everyone meet Skinny Living they a new, unsigned band based just outside Leeds in the North of England.  The band is made up of two singer/songwriters namely Ryan Johnston & Will Booth with different musical backgrounds and influences, Danny Hepworth and Rhys Anderton.  Ryan is from my home town and used to live up the road from me, a local guy aiming to hit the charts and the top 40!

That’s were you guys come in! We are always hearing the same bands in the charts and rarely these days does there seem to be a breakthrough band who are local and your normal down to earth guys.  Their debut single STORYBOOK has just been released today and it’s with your help and spreading the word that we can help them get into the top 40! Imagine hearing them on Sunday on Radio 1’s top 40 knowing that they are there because of you!?

Why not have a listen to some of their music?

They have been and are touring all around the UK and Northern Ireland an will soon be heading to the Netherlands!

Well just buy/download their single, a bargain at less than £1!

Hello Monday

Monday at last! Most of you I’m sure are thinking, NO, it can’t be Monday already, but I’m so glad it’s here! After a full week lost to the flu I can’t wait to get back to work and back to normality again!  Usually on a Monday I show you all my wardrobe for the week, but seeing as I was at home ill all week none of my outfits were worn, so this week I will just use the clothes I previously planned

Well I spent most of the week either in bed or tucked up on the sofa in front of the TV.  Thank goodness for SKY On Demand or I would have gone mad! In between loads of sleep and naps I have somehow become addicted to Game Of Thrones! Ryan is really into it and I tried watching it before with him but had no idea what was going on!  It just seemed like it was full of blood, murder, sex, naked people and mud with no real story to it.  After watching it from the beginning now, yes that is what it’s basically full of but it does have a story and it is so addictive.  I only started watching it on Thursday when I was starting to feel a bit better and already I am nearly on season 3, (I have to watch it alone and turn it over when mum or dad are in the room, because really that would just be too weird and uncomfortable to watch with them!) As I write this now at 1am on Friday night/Saturday morning (I can’t sleep, must have slept too much today) I am watching Game of Thrones and hopefully by the time you read this I will be up to date for the new season!

At the end of last week it was my birthday and pay day, so when I was feeling better I went on a bit of a shopping spree, all bargains though!  These all arrived on my week off, first to arrive was my Model’s Own haul – 6 polishes for £20.  Keep an eye out later in the week for my review.

Next to arrive was the latest Jojo Moyles book The One Plus One.  A bargain on Amazon for I think it was £7.00, rather than £14.99.  I really loved her book Me Before You and I have heard good reviews for this one, so I can’t wait to see how it ends (I’ve already started it).

Then there was my Limited Edition Benefit YOU Beauty Discovery Box that I told you about on Friday

This little beauty arrived on Thursday but typically I missed the postman and got one of those stupid ‘your parcel is waiting at the post office’.  I literally just missed the postman, by the time I got up and to the door he was at his van, and he DID NOT have a parcel in his hands! I swear some of these delivery men just write the little note, ring the door/knock, post the notes and off they go back to their van! Ok rant over, just wait to you see the size of the box these arrived in!

Yes for my little box of 6 hand creams I got the most MASSIVE box, I swear you could fit a microwave in it! No wonder the delivery guy couldn’t hide it anywhere!

Another bargain at £20.50 (including P&P) instead of £32.50 from Crabtree & Evelyn. I can’t wait to try out these new scents once my original Rosewater one is finished.

In the Crabtree & Evelyn order I was also able to chose a free sample, I went for this one.

Last of all my other books from Amazon arrived.  These 6 books came to a total of £25, a total bargain! That’s one of the reasons why I prefer Amazon to book shops, the prices are a bargain and I don’t feel stupid/uncomfortable.  Weird as that my sound, I’m really not a big reader and only in the past 5 years or so have I really started reading, I used to hate it, always remembering from when I was a child people telling me I couldn’t read or was awful at reading.  What I find daunting about book shops is I don’t know what genre it is I like to read, I never know where to look in book shops and I feel like a total idiot when I ask the staff in the store.  Amazon therefore is brilliant as I can snoop around the ‘shelves’ with ease and they recommend books on my previous buying history.

I recently watched the Book Thief in the cinema and really enjoyed it so I hope the book delivers the same.  Whilst at the cinema I have seen a couple of trailers for A Long Way Down, however I haven’t heard the best reviews for the film and have been told the book is much better, so I thought I would find out for myself.  Girl in the Mirror is now the only Cecelia Ahern book I haven’t read so I had to get it for my collection.  As for The Husband’s Secret and Gone Girl I just liked how the sounded and thought they looked like a good read.  I’ve had a few people tell me how good they are so I really can’t wait to get reading them all!

And that was the highlights of my week with the flu, thankfully now I am much better and back to work!

I hope you all have a great week and enjoy the rest of this week’s blog posts!

March’s Instagram round up

Today’s post has taken a lot longer than I had planned, unfortunately the site I usually use was down and a lot of waiting later it’s still not working so I had to do my collages on my phone.  Better late than never, here you go, my very busy and full of pictures round up of March.

March you have been a good one (apart for the last week catching the flu) I’m looking forward to what April will bring on Tuesday! 🙂

March’s featured blogger

This month’s featured blogger is Sian from Forever Fabulous in Bows.  I originally came across Sian’s blog after attending an event with her last Summer in Dublin for Cocoa Brown Tan.  We didn’t get a proper chance to meet as there were so many bloggers at the event and we were at separate tables.  After the event I added as many of the other bloggers I had recognised from the event and started reading their blogs and following them.  I recognised Sian straight away as I had remembered her from the event, her outfit and look was stunning!

I love reading Sian’s blog as it is honest and down to earth.  I love her sense of style and fashion, it is very similar to my own and I love seeing how outfits actually look on.  Depending on the shop and style of clothes I would be a size 12-16 and when you look at outfits online or in magazines it’s always a size 6-10 model wearing them so you never actually know what they would look like on you.  Sian is that person who tries on all the gorgeous clothes and is a little like your own life sized doll.  Sian also has such a range of styles and shops in a range of different shops and has shown me places that otherwise I would not have known about.  Another reason why it isn’t just the fashion I love but the beauty too, a normal girl trying out and reviewing different beauty items.

Hi Sian, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview for me!

So how long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging for over two years now! I started my Blog on the 2nd or 3rd of February 2012. I’d been away for the weekend and after I came home, I pulled out my little netbook and decided to finally start one.

What brought you to blogging?

The lack of Plus Size Bloggers in Ireland. For me I read so many American and UK Plus Size Blogger’s but I didn’t have anyone from Ireland I could relate to. I decided to fill that Niche and I haven’t looked back.

How would you describe your blog?

A Mixture of Fashion and Beauty. It’s definitely predominately Plus Size Fashion, but I like to mix it up and fill my readers in on my favourite beauty products!

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

Hands down, the lovely friends I’ve met. Sure I’ve gotten amazing opportunities and I’m lucky and get PR Sample and attend Events but it’s not important to me. I’ve met truly lovely friends through the Blogging community and If I only have to take one thing from Blogging it would be them.

What inspires you as a blogger?

Other Blogger’s of all shapes and sizes and girls on the street! I love seeing how other people put together outfits and seeing if they’ll work for me!

What has been your most popular post?

I’ve had quite a few popular posts! I’d say the most popular posts are one of my Bikini ones. Not a lot of people think Plus Size girls are confident enough to wear a bikini so I guess they need to see it to believe it 😉

Who are your favourite bloggers to follow/read?

Gabi Fresh is my all time favourite blogger! She’s just effortlessly stylish! I of course love all my Blogger friends blogs, but Gabi’s stands out to me.

Where do you blog?

I’ve made a little office in my front room, so I always Blog there! I’m also always in my jammies with my hair tied up in a bun and not a scrap of make-up!

So I hope you all have liked what you have read and are intrigued to find out more about Sian and read more of her fabulous blog, or perhaps even follow her! Let me give you the links so you can –

So many goodies to try out! Recently I have received loads of samples to try out and review for you all, including the benefit beauty box I bought myself.  Isn’t it always the way, as the saying goes ‘you wait for a bus and two come along at once’.

I have serum from my local Lancome counter to try out.

More serum from my local Estee Lauder counter.

Perfume and primer from my local Clinique counter.

3 fabulous products from Cocoa Brown.

A box of Benefit items.

I also have a sample of foundation from my local YSL counter but I haven’t a photo of it at the minute.

Loads to get through and I need to find the time to try them out but as soon as I do you shall all know.  Thank you also to the companies above for sending/giving me these samples, I can’t wait to try them out and I’m sure I will look a million dollars once I’ve tried them all! 🙂

It’s time to try out another beauty box.  It’s been a few months since I cancelled my subscription to Glossybox.  They started off good but then fizzled out for me, so when I came across this new box I was a little sceptical . . .

I can’t take the glory for finding this little beauty (excuse the pun), it was actually Mum who spotted a feature on it in YOU Magazine (The Mail).  She ripped out the page and said she straight away thought of me.  After a couple of weeks I eventually went on the website to see what it was all about.

Looking at the website I liked what I read £6.95 a month (nearly half the price of Glossybox) and each month you pick 2 of your favourite items from a selection of 12 YOU Beauty Discovery have selected. You get to see the items, can read about them, and find out the opinions of their beauty experts on the items selected.  The fact that I could pick 2 of the items I wanted was a big seller for me, no more will I end up getting loads of products I don’t want and wouldn’t use.

As you can see it’s not just two items you get.  Yes you will definitely (if in stock, but you will be notified of this before you purchase) get the two items you have selected but the team at YOU Beauty Discovery will also give you a few little extras.  The two items I chose were the Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater hand treatment and the Rimmel BB Cream.  Yet I also got the fake eyelashes from The Vintage Cosmetic Company (these were so close to being one of my top 2 items) and a couple of Dragonfly Teas.

This was the box when it first arrived through the door.  I have to say when I first got it I was a little disappointed, it was so tiny.  I thought it would just be the 2 items I had selected and then probably those tiny sachets of foundation or scratch perfume things you get in magazines in the box.

I was pleasantly pleased and proved wrong!  First opening the box I was greeted with a glossy mini magazine, a little like what you can find on the website, with information on products and top tips.

Remove the magazine and you get down to the goodies, don’t worry I set them all up properly for you so you could see what I actually got.

Like I said before there was the mini magazine, the Crabtree & Evelyn hand treatment, the Rimmel BB Cream (these are the ones I had chosen), the fake eyelashes from The Vintage Cosmetics Company and a couple of Dragonfly Tea bags.  There was also a voucher for 50p of Dragonfly Tea bags and a card to fill in a survey for YOU Beauty Discovery where you are entered into a comp to receive your next box for free.

As I mentioned the box is £6.95 a month, this includes P&P! The amount is taken from your account when you first sign up and then on the 1st of the month thereafter.  However you have the opportunity to cancel when you want to.

The Crabtree & Evelyn ultra-moisturising hand therapy was the first thing I tried out.  My hands have become so dry and old looking and I have been looking for ages and trying out different products to combat this.  As soon as I applied the moisturiser I could feel a difference, the littlest amount left my hands feeling soft, moisturised and silky.  It wasn’t a think cream and didn’t take ages to soak into my hands, even the slight old lady smell (Rose always reminds me of this) didn’t put me off.  I have been using this every day, at least once a day for the last two weeks and I still have loads left and I am truly in LOVE with the product.  That in LOVE that I have even purchased a selection of the hand therapies from the Crabtree & Evelyn website and I can’t wait for them to arrive!

The second thing I chose to try out were the lashes from The Vintage Cosmetic Company.  Usually when I wear lashes I go all out and go for the massive eye catching ones, however I was heading out for afternoon tea, a treat but not too OTT so I decided to give the lashes a go.

A very natural look and a clear glue rather than the usual white glues that come with the fake lashes I would usually wear.

I prepared my eyes by curling the lashes, applying a little mascara and a thin line of eyeliner, just so any joins weren’t visible.

This is the lash on, please excuse the slightly watery eye, my contact was playing up.  I also slightly underestimated the glue and kind of stuck my own lashes together on this eye.  I learnt from my mistakes though for the second eye and applied less glue!

N.B. the glue washed off at the end of the day with no problems

Here are the finished eyes.  I love the natural look and actually had a few people comment on how long my lashes were, they didn’t realise they were fake.  They were light weight on and I have to say the easiest lashes I have ever applied! If you are a first timer at using lashes or have problems applying them then these are the ones for you.  All I did was apply the glue, set them on my eyes above the lashes and that was it, there was no having to move them about or getting one part stuck down when the other flicks up and comes off.

I have now used these a couple of times and they are still fantastic and easy to apply, I am sure I will be using them a lot more and I’ll most definitely be looking online or out for these in the shop to see what other styles they have and then purchasing!

Finally I tried out the Rimmel BB Cream.  My skin has been playing up a lot recently, a lot my own fault for not keeping up with my skin routine.  So I have been looking to try a new foundation, the latest one I spent £8.99 on and if anything it has made my skin worse!  I have been using this for about a week now (the photos however are from the weekend when I wasn’t feeling well so please excuse the look of death and bad skin) and I still haven’t finished it.  I literally only need to use the smallest amount to cover my skin perfectly.

Maybe not the best picture to see it in, but the right side of my face has the BB Cream foundation and the left has nothing.

Here is my face completely covered with the foundation.  The colour I received was light, usually I would go straight of the medium, but I like this colour on my skin, it is natural but I don’t look too pale.

My right side

My left side.

So you can see from the picture that the sample I received was small however I have had about 7 uses from it and there is still a little left so I can imagine the full sized tube would last you a long time!  The one slight negative I would have is that it has a slight alcohol smell from it (although you may not smell this, I have a really sensitive sense of smell) so I wouldn’t advise you apply it with a hangover lol.  I most definitely will be heading out to buy the full sized tube when my sample size runs out!

I’ve still to try out the Dragonfly Tea, but I might give them ago this week, hot, natural tea might just be the perfect thing for my sore throat!

YOU Beauty Discovery also do limited edition boxes ranging in price and themes.
